Emissions from agricultural activities account for about 14 percent of global GHG emissions. Major sources of agricultural emissions (methane and nitrous oxide) include soils management (where emissions result from particular tillage and cropping practices, such as fertilizer application) and livestock.
This figure shows GHG emissions from agriculture for the 25 top GHG-emitting countries (including the EU-27). Together, these countries account for 71 percent of global emissions from agriculture. China and Brazil, the two largest emitters, together account for 28 percent of the global total. The EU-27, United States, India, Argentina, and Indonesia together account for another 27 percent. All other countries individually constitute less than 2 percent of the world total.
